Is Your Cat Breeder Website Costing You Kitten Sales?

 June 19, 2025

Are you missing out on homes for your kittens?

You’ve spent years perfecting your breeding lines, raising kittens with care, and winning the odd rosette or two. But here’s a hard truth: even the loveliest kittens won’t sell if your website puts people off.

I’ve seen it time and time again — gorgeous cats, a strong prefix, but a website that looks like it was last updated when dial-up was still a thing.

If you’re relying on an old site or something cobbled together quickly, you could be losing kitten sales without even realising it.

Take The 30 Second Website Test

“Get the 30-second website test that could be the difference between a full waiting list… and no kitten enquiries.”

Why It Matters to Breeders

Kitten buyers these days do their research. They’ll:

  • Check your website on their phone

  • Look for clear photos and pedigree info

  • Want to see your show results or awards

  • Expect a smooth, professional experience

And if they don’t get that? They’ll move on to another breeder who looks more “serious” or “trusted” — even if your cats are just as good (or better).

Your website is your digital front door. If it looks unloved or confusing, people may wonder if the same applies to your kittens. Harsh, but true.

Take the 30-Second Website Test

Here’s a quick test you can do right now — no special tools needed. Just your phone.

Open your site and ask yourself these five questions:

  1. Can I tell what breed you specialise in — without scrolling?

  2. Are there clear, recent photos of your cats or kittens?

  3. Is there a section for kitten availability or plans?

  4. Is it obvious how to contact you — without copying and pasting anything?

  5. Does it feel like it’s been updated this year — or this decade?

If you’re unsure on even one of those… your site might be costing you enquiries.

It’s amazing how often the little things make the biggest difference. One breeder I worked with had brilliant cats but hadn’t updated their site in years. Within 48 hours of a quick refresh, they had three new kitten enquiries — from the kind of homes they actually wanted.

Common Mistakes I See on Breeder Websites

Here are some of the most common issues I come across when reviewing cat breeder websites:

1. Outdated Design

If your website looks like it was built in 2009, people will assume your information is just as old.

2. Not Mobile Friendly

More than 70% of people browse on their phones. If your site doesn’t adapt to small screens, they’ll click away.

3. Missing Kitten Info

No mention of available kittens or upcoming litters? That’s a fast way to lose buyers.

4. Blurry or Poor-Quality Photos

Your cats are stunning. Your photos should be too. Pixelated snapshots don’t build trust.

5. No Clear Contact Method

If someone wants a kitten but has to hunt for your email or phone number, you’ve already lost them.

What Makes the Difference?

A great breeder website isn’t about bells and whistles. It’s about clarity, trust, and showing your cats in the best possible light.

The ones that do best tend to have:

  • Clean, modern layouts (that work beautifully on phones)

  • Eye-catching images of current kittens and breeding cats

  • A clear “Kitten Info” or “Available Now” section

  • Up-to-date show results and breeding plans

  • Simple contact forms or clear call-to-action buttons

And perhaps most importantly… they feel alive. Not like they were frozen in time during lockdown.

Want to Know How Your Site Stacks Up?

If you’ve got a breeder website and you’re not sure whether it’s helping or hurting, I’ll happily run a quick check for you — no pressure, no jargon, no strings.

I’ve judged cats in the show hall and judged websites behind the scenes… and I can tell you, the ones that build trust online are the ones that sell kittens quicker, to better homes.

Let’s Make Your Website Work as Hard as You Do

If you’re a breeder looking to refresh your site — or just need someone who understands the cat world and won’t baffle you with tech talk — I’d be happy to help.

I’ve built websites for dozens of catteries and clubs across the UK, and I know what buyers and fellow breeders look for.

Your cats deserve to shine online. Let’s make sure they do.
